I Remember Ringwood
by Louis P. West, Sr.
The North Jersey Highlands Historical Society is pleased to announce
the transcription and publication of, as a local- history resource
document, the late Louis P. West’s oral history, I Remember
Ringwood, which he recorded directly onto audio tapes for
the Society in 1973. Mr. West’s narrative recounted his
memories of the old Ringwood mining operation, the Ringwood Manor
estate, and the Long Pond Ironworks area (Old Hewitt) in neighboring
West Milford, during the 1920s-1940s. Both Ringwood Manor and
the Long Pond Ironworks District are now historic sites in the
New Jersey State Park system.
Researchers who are interested in obtaining a copy should contact
the Society at the address on the bottom of this page and provide
your postal address. A large-print version of the transcript is
also available.
This project was funded, in part, by the Passaic County Cultural
and Heritage Council at Passaic County Community College, through
a general operating support grant from the New Jersey Historical
Commission, a division of the Department of State.
