Ed Lenik's 28th Annual New Years Day Hike
Continuing a Tradition of Starting the New Year with Good Cheer in Good Company in A Good Place
All Are Invited

(And it's not cold, honest!)

“A New Year’s Day Ramble”
Circumperambulating the shores of Lake Kanawauke

Meet at 9:45 at the Lake Kanawauke Picnic Area Parking Lot located on County Road 106 a short distance WEST of the Kanawauke Traffic circle on Seven Lakes Drive in Harriman State Park, NY.

Hike steps off PROMPTLY at 10:00 AM.

Bring a lunch and, if you wish, a treat to share with the group. We will have lunch at an interesting place. This hike is moderate along woods roads and paved roads. We expect to return to the parking area by 3:00 PM.

HIGHLIGHTS: A medicinal spring in this area was the raison d'etre for the name of Good Spring Mountain and the Good Spring House, a hotel to visit to cure what ailed you. There are rockshelters and Indian campsites in the area. Later, Boy Scout and Girl Scout camps lined its shores.

The North Jersey Highlands Historical Society (NJHHS), founded in 1954, is dedicated to collecting and communicating the history of the Highlands Region from prehistoric Native Americans to the present. We meet the last Wednesday of every month at 8:00 pm in the Long Pond Ironworks Visitor's Center. For more information, email info@northjerseyhistory.org.
